MY EXPERIENCE
NBC News
In my current contracted position with NBC’s Social Newsgathering team, I utilize and work with social media to contribute unique angles to long-form, and breaking news stories every day, in both digital/editorial and broadcast outlets. And on top of this, I delegate visual verification and newsgathering work with the evening news team, using critical analysis of user generated content or simply finding relevant video online for various broadcast or digital deadlines.
Most recently I worked on user-generated content related to the 2024 U.S. election. In the past month, I worked on visually verifying and geolocating footage of the rebel takeover of Aleppo, Syria and anti-NATO protests in Montreal, Canada. Most significantly this year I visually verified and geolocated the IDF take-down of Hamas chairman Yahya Al-Sinwar. During the summer of 2024 I critically analyzed, verified and cleared user generated content of multiple assassination attempts on former president Donald Trump. Internationally, on a day-to-day basis I work on visual verification in the Middle East.
In my role with the team I have worked through the late-night hours alone, covering our team and handing over to the members in London. While on this shift, I have worked through requests from other teams within the network, providing them verification, guidance and context for what they are looking for. I have also formatted very specific, detailed handovers for our team in London. And that said, I continue to maintain these close and professional relationships with like-minded journalists across the US and the world.
KTLA 5 News
Prior to NBC, I was a coordinator with KTLA, where I worked closely with reporters, writers, anchors and producers across all platforms in the Los Angeles market. Deadlines consisted of hourly newscast shows, as well as timely digital articles and posts for social media, and as it is with every newsroom, the team relied on the desk to relay any and all information. I was responsible for researching and finding visuals to everyone – most often a live newscast rundown or web post. I often filled in for editors at the desk.
USC
I have been a journalist in Los Angeles for six years now. And I feel very grateful to say my entire background in the field started in multi-platform news production at the Annenberg School for Journalism at USC. For the better part of my life, I have been exposed to finding news in Los Angeles – a city that’s bustling with it.
Additionally, during my time at USC, I worked as an intern at CBS National News, shadowing a broadcast associate for seven months in 2021. I would search for video on socials and gather anything relevant for national packages, plus assist in all forms of newsgathering. This, and my time at KTLA, were such foundational periods in my earlier career. And looking back upon them reinforces my enthusiasm and commitment to journalism and the prospects and innovations the future has in store for our industry.
